Set within the developing Ørestad community, Nexus offers refuge from the city. A place for contemplation, reflection and introspection, the submerged complex takes the occupant on a journey of discovery and self development. Dealing with the dualities of life, the conceptual development of Nexus stems from an interpretation of the preexisting site conditions: the contrast between labyrinthine pathways through the fields are intersected by the clearcut, open canal. The important threshold between confusion and clarity, labyrinth and contemplation, is indicated by the action of passing a body of water. Inspired by Scarpa’s Brion Vega Cemetery in which water acts as the boundary between life and death, the project as a whole becomes a larger metaphor for the grieving process .
